چکیده

Abstract Introduction The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is high in patients with systolic heart failure (HFrEF) and has been associated poor prognosis this patient population. impact positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy OSA HFrEF remains unclear. This retrospective study sought to investigate the association between 1-year adherence PAP healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) newly diagnosed comorbid HFrEF. Methods A national sample administrative claims data linked objective usage was used for analysis. Included either had two encounters or one hospitalization a ICD-10 diagnosis code year prior being initiated on therapy. HCRU measured as composite outcome hospitalizations, emergency room (ER) visits. Propensity score matching create well-balanced groups differing levels assess outcomes. Risk-adjusted models were generate number needed treat (NNT) that referred need become adherent from non-adherent avoid 1 visit. Results We identified 3,182 HFrEF, after propensity matching, 738 remained each group (adherent vs. non-adherent). After therapy, fewer visits than (0.92 1.15 per subject, p = 0.006), which driven by 24% reduction ER patients. Composite visit costs lower versus ($3,500 $5,879, p=0.03). NNT entire cohort 1.5 Conclusion who have hospitalizations not adherent. These results highlight clinical economic benefits treating Support (if any) Funding Source: ResMed

Probability of obstructive sleep apnea in male patients with systolic heart failure and some related factors

Background and Purpose: Sleep breathing disorders have a negative impact on the illness outcome and quality of life in patients with heart failure. This study was conducted to investigate the probability of obstructive sleep apnea in men with heart failure and some related factors. Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on 100 male patients with systolic heart failure selected throu...

Cardiovascular effects of continuous positive airway pressure in patients with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea.

BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea subjects the failing heart to adverse hemodynamic and adrenergic loads and may thereby contribute to the progression of heart failure. We hypothesized that treatment of obstructive sleep apnea by continuous positive airway pressure in patients with heart failure would improve left ventricular systolic function. METHODS Twenty-four patients with a depressed l...

Factors Affecting Patients’ Adherence to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Disorder: A Multi-Method Approach

Background: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard therapy for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disorder. However, patients’ adherence to its regular use is poor. The present study aimed to determine the adherence rate to CPAP therapy by identifying factors affecting its regular use and its associated problems and discomforts among a sample population in Mashhad (...

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Adherence for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Objective. To determine predictors of patient adherence to CPAP. Design. A retrospective chart review identified patients with AHI values greater than 15 who were recommended to receive CPAP. Compliance was measured at a 1-to 4-month interval and at 1 year. Results. There were 106 of 368 (29%) patients who received CPAP therapy that were compliant with CPAP use at 1 to 4 months. Forty-six patie...

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure for Adults with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

www.thoracic.org C LI P A N D C O P Y OSA patients wake up often throughout the night (although they may not remember doing so) and thus can be very tired during the daytime. In addition, each stoppage in breathing can lead to falls in oxygen level and a stress release of adrenaline, both of which can contribute to high blood pressure and put a strain on the heart. Left untreated, this situatio...
